How does Cubita compare to Pilón and Bustelo?

All three are Cuban-style espresso roasts. Pilón is the smoothest and most popular in South Florida. Bustelo has the sharpest, most bitter punch. Cubita sits in the middle with a drier finish and aromatic profile that long-time Cuban coffee drinkers describe as closest to traditional Cuban farm coffee. Worth trying if Bustelo is too sharp and Pilón feels too soft.

Whole bean vs ground — which should I buy?

Whole bean (this product): Stays fresh ~4–6 weeks longer than pre-ground because the bean oils stay sealed. You grind right before brewing for peak aroma. Required for espresso machines with built-in grinders. Best for serious daily cafecito drinkers.
Ground: Convenient — ready to spoon into the moka pot. Best if you don't own a grinder or want zero-effort cafecito. See our Cubita ground 8oz Pack of 6 for the ready-to-brew version.

How to brew the perfect cafecito

Grind Cubita to fine espresso consistency. Fill a moka pot's bottom chamber with water to the valve. Pack the coffee basket lightly with fresh grind — don't tamp. Brew over medium heat. As the first drops emerge, beat them in a separate cup with 2–3 teaspoons of sugar to make espumita (thick pale foam). Pour the rest of the brew over the foam. Serve in small cups.

Storage

Unopened bags stay fresh 12+ months sealed. Once opened, transfer to an airtight container in a cool, dark spot. Not the fridge — humidity destroys aroma. Whole bean stays peak quality 4–6 weeks after opening if stored properly.
