Sabores de la Isla — Capítulo I: La Habana
Sabores de la Isla
Esto es lo que cocinamos, brindamos y celebramos. A storybook journey through the island our families still taste.
Every Cuban family keeps an island in its kitchen. Not the one on the map — the one in the stories: the bodega that knew your name, the cafetera that never cooled, the dominoes after dinner. This is Capítulo I. Welcome to La Habana, en su tiempo.
LO QUE COCINAMOS
La cocina de la abuela
Before anything else, La Habana was a smell: sofrito hitting the caldero at noon, frijoles negros holding court on the back burner, white rice steaming like a promise. The bodega on the corner knew your family's order by heart.
LO QUE BRINDAMOS
La ventanita de las tres
Every afternoon, the city paused at a little window. A colada passed hand to hand, thimble cups for everyone, Materva sweating on ice for the kids. Nobody drank alone — that was the whole point.
LO QUE CELEBRAMOS
La noche habanera
And when night fell, the island dressed up. Dominoes cracked onto the table like applause, pastelitos arrived by the dozen, and somewhere down the street a band tuned up. Every celebration began and ended in the kitchen.
"La Cuba que nos contaron vive en lo que cocinamos."
